Ashburn Seniors Visit Nearby Preschool to Celebrate Read Across America Day

In honor of Read Across America Day, an annual reading motivation program sponsored by the National Education Association, future residents of Waltonwood Ashburn retirement community volunteered their time to read to a nearby preschool. Read Across America Day encourages every child in every community to celebrate reading on Dr. Seuss’s birthday by getting together and reading some of his classic books. The future residents and team members of Waltonwood Ashburn, which is set to open later this year, answered that call by dedicating their time to read to three of the HOPE Preschool classes. In addition, the team donated Dr. Seuss books to the classrooms for kids to enjoy for years to come.

“It was very rewarding to see local Ashburn seniors take the time to read to the classes at HOPE Preschool,” said Mary Wikowitz, director of HOPE Preschool. “The children loved listening to the seniors read to them, and it was a truly rewarding experience. My parents plan to move to Waltonwood Ashburn once it opens, and I look forward to continuing our interaction with the residents, as these activities benefit everyone involved.”

The future residents and team members wore Cat in the Hat style hats as they encouraged children to continue to nurture their knowledge through reading.

“This is the launch of a partnership between Waltonwood Ashburn and HOPE Preschool to establish intergenerational activities between the seniors and children in the local area. These activities provide opportunities for generations of people to meet and connect in a way they normally wouldn’t in their daily lives,” said Justin Roberts, executive director of Waltonwood Ashburn. “Waltonwood Ashburn is committed to giving back to the community, and as a family-focused community, we believe that supporting children is the key to our future.”

This is the first Waltonwood community in Northern Virginia, and the team looks forward to bringing its expertly designed, luxury independent living, assisted living and memory care concept to seniors throughout the greater Washington, D.C. metro area. The community will have 114 independent living apartments, 72 assisted living apartments and 27 memory care apartments. Nestled on 14.5 acres, the 287,000-square-foot community will offer a wide variety of amenities ranging from state-of-the-art fitness equipment specifically designed for seniors to scenic courtyards with relaxing gazebos, massage therapy, elegant dining areas and much more.

Waltonwood Ashburn provides all residents with a wonderful lifestyle and full continuum of care to meet their changing needs. From independent living to assisted living to memory care and short-term stay, residents and families have peace of mind knowing that they have access to different levels of living all on one campus.

Singh currently owns and operates 10 other Waltonwood Senior Communities in Michigan and North Carolina, and has several other communities in development and under construction in North Carolina and the Washington, D.C. metro area market.
